About Department
The Department of Information Technology (IT) was established with the vision of providing quality education in the field of Information Technology, fostering innovation and preparing students to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving digital world. The department offers undergraduate programmes designed to equip students with strong theoretical foundations and practical skills in computing technologies, software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and networking.
The department has a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members with expertise in various domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Software Engineering, Database Management Systems, and Computer Networks. Faculty members actively engage in research, consultancy, and professional development activities, contributing to academic excellence and innovation.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories including Programming Laboratory, Database Management Systems Laboratory, Networking Laboratory, Cloud Computing Laboratory, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Laboratory and Project Development Laboratory. ICT-enabled classrooms, high-speed internet connectivity and modern computing facilities provide students with an excellent learning environment.
The department has an outstanding academic record with excellent pass percentages. The curriculum is designed to align with industry expectations and emerging technologies, ensuring that students gain relevant technical knowledge and practical exposure. Continuous curriculum enhancement supports the development of industry-ready graduates.
To enhance employability, the department provides structured training programmes from the early semesters, including aptitude training, coding practice, technical skill development, communication skills and mock interviews. Students have secured placements in leading multinational companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, ZOHO, Cognizant, HCL Technologies, CTS, LTIMindTree, CAAR Technologies and other reputed organizations.
The department strongly encourages higher education, research, and global exposure. Students pursue higher studies in premier institutions and participate in national and international certification programmes. The department promotes industry interaction through internships, industrial visits, guest lectures, workshops, hackathons and collaborative projects with industry partners.
Research and innovation are key focus areas of the department. Faculty and students actively publish research papers in reputed journals and conferences. Students actively participate in technical competitions, coding contests, hackathons, innovation challenges, and project exhibitions at national and international levels. Professional development is supported through active student chapters of IEEE, IE(I), CSI and other professional bodies. With a strong focus on academic excellence, technical competence, innovation, leadership, and ethical values, the department prepares future-ready IT professionals capable of addressing global technological challenges.

Program Outcomes(PO’s)
- Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design/development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet t h e specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- Modern Tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
- The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
- Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
- Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
- Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

The International Conference on Computational Intelligence (ICCI 2025) was jointly organized by the Departments of Information Technology and Computer Science and Business Systems of K. Ramakrishnan College of Engineering, Trichy, in collaboration with VEI Technologies. The conference aimed to unite researchers, academicians, and industry experts to share advancements in computational intelligence. Over 400 technical papers were received from students, faculty, and research scholars, covering topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, IoT, and Mobile Computing. After a rigorous peer-review process, 235 papers were selected for presentation, with 115 chosen for publication in Scopus-indexed book chapters.
